What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy®(ART)?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy, commonly referred to as A.R.T., is an evidence based psychotherapy that uses client-centered therapeutic directives with eye-movements (similar to those you experience when sleeping) to target memories and experiences that are negatively affecting your daily life and relationships. Many clients report experiencing rapid relief within 1 to 5 sessions.

Who is ART for?

ART is appropriate and beneficial for many mental and physical challenges including, but not limited to those experiencing:

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Panic Attacks
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Substance Abuse
  • Early Traumatic Experiences (abuse, neglect, abandonment, etc)

How does ART work?
ART combines multiple evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques to directly reprogram how painful or distressing images and memories are stored in your brain. When these memories and images are successfully reprocessed, they no longer activate intense emotional and physical reactions. With ART, you are able to keep the memory, but lose the pain.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages
the client to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously
experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is
associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the
trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help
people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.

Therapists use EMDR for:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
  • Chronic illness and medical issues
  • Depression and bipolar disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Grief and loss
  • Pain
  • Psychosis
  • PTSD/CPTSD
  • Sexual assault
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Substance abuse and addiction
  • Violence and abuse

How can EMDR Therapy Help with the Healing Process?

Our brains have a natural way to recover from traumatic
memories and events. While many times traumatic experiences can be managed and
resolved spontaneously, others may not be processed without help. Stress
responses are our natural fight, flight, or freeze instincts. When distress
from a disturbing event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions
may create feelings of overwhelm, of being back in that moment, or of being
“frozen in time.” EMDR therapy helps the brain process these memories and allows
normal healing to resume. The experience is still remembered, but the fight,
flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved.
“Something changed the first time I experienced EMDR and if I could put one
word on it… it would be HOPE.”
